A fixed weir or orifice only achieves peak discharge when the water surfaces in the pond rises to its highest level. Thirsty Duck BFD's achieve the peak discharge rate as soon as the inflow rate equals the design discharge rate. Thirsty Duck maintains this discharge rate until the inflow rate decreases below the design discharge rate.
A recent study by Reynolds, Smith and Hills, Inc. analyzed three roadway ponds, and concluded that Thirsty Duck could have saved an average of 44% by area had the ponds been re-designed using a Thirsty Duck BFD. Click here to read the complete report.
